I've been revisiting my RSD catalog lately, and agree with other reviews about the poor record quality. My copy, which looks NM, has surface noise through out the record, distorted sounds and sibilance on the cymbals/vocals. It's too bad because this is a very nice package to own, and I like having the option of listening to Cygnus on vinyl, in it's entirely without having to change records. I'd recommend to anyone who is thinking of buying one to buy one used and ensured it's play graded VG+ or better. Hopefully, there are a few good ones pressed.
Can't really recommend this one. My disc has weird dirty looking film on it and is a bit warped which affects the sound on Side A. On top of that, both sides (but especially Side B) has lots of non-fill, so Geddy's vocals and Neil's cymbals sound very harsh and sibilant from time to time. Definitely not the definitive way to enjoy the Sean Magee mastered versions of these songs. Not worth the 29€ I paid for this, as this is worth more like ~15€ - in my opinion of course.
My copy also has a very smugy film across it. Bad sibilance and surface noise too. Underwhelming to say the least.
I didn't as that wouldn't fix the non-fill, and I just didn't feel like spending time on cleaning something that should be flawless anyways. Got it refunded so everything's alright. :)
Did you try spin cleaning it first? My copy was absolutely covered in paper dust after opening, but I clean all my records before first playing to remove dust and static. Then I toss the paper sleeve in the bin and use diskeeper poly inner sleeves instead.
That's a bummer. My copy was almost flawless. Almost no surface noise and very clean looking. I do feel for you though. I've had crappy copies of brand new lps also. Not to rub salt in the wound but I got my copy for $9.50 US just because I'm a frequent buyer at the store I got it at and had "points" to spend. I got there 5 mins after opening, it was a nightmare but still managed to snag this and the Claypool Lennon Delerium EP (which was also very clean). After tax, I was out the door only having spent $30 US.
My copy has lots of surface noise and pops...first play out of the shrink wrap. Such a shame.
Well the problem is the record stores in my area even though I am in Canada didn't get any of these.
Picked up today (4/30) for $29.99 @ Rotate This (Toronto)
