Blu-spec CD2 DOES NOT improve the quality of the recorded source audio that is on them. Blu-spec CD2, released by Sony Music Entertainment of Japan in 2008, are manufactured on Blu-ray pressing machines. Instead of an infra-red laser the Blu-ray pressing uses Blue Laser Diode that reproduces master tape quality with microfabrication by semiconductor laser cutting. The blue lasor cuts more precise recording pits on the CD master, while using a different recording layer material for the CD master. This method is called "Phase Transition Mastering" [PTM].

PTM gives the Blu-spec CD2 a lower "jitter rate" producing less distortion in the optical read-out process. The jitter rate on a Blu-spec CD2 is 10 nano seconds compared to 20 nano seconds on a standard CD. However the jitter rate needs to be several hundred nano seconds to be audible. Blu-spec CD2 recordings maintain a sampling rate and dynamic range of a standard CD [44.1 kHz - 16 bit].

A Blu-spec CD2 is comparable to a SHM-CD. Both are manufactured using higher grade materials for the reflective layer and the polymer used to produce the outer layer of the audio disc. Both will out last the standard audio disc. Blu-spec CD2 and SHM-CD audio discs WILL NOT improve the audio quality when comparing them to a standard CD with the same source audio, and using the same recording method.

If you listened to the 2006 remaster of Boston's 'Don't Look Back' CD, without knowing if the music was on a Blu-spec CD2, a SHM-CD or a standard audio disc, you would not be able to identify the type of disc that the music playing is on because they will all sound the same.

A BETTER MANUFACTURED AUDIO DISC DOES NOT MEAN BETTER AUDIO QUALITY!
